My Doorstep Promise, St Georges Day

I know that when I renew my promise, I will not be alone. Wherever and however you renew your promise this year, you will be doing so knowing that we will all be making it together.
Hello Lincolnshire Scouts
There is no sure forecast of when our restrictions will change and amongst all of our other events and plans our St Georges Celebrations have taken an unexpected turn.
This year, more than ever our integrity as Scouts is called to the fore. When we first made our promises it was in a context of calm and familiarity within our groups and colleagues but now in uncertain times, as we say the words of our promise we must say what we mean and in making that promise again, mean what we say and keep it.
I know that when I renew my promise, I will not be alone. Wherever and however you renew your promise this year, you will be doing so knowing that we will be making it together.
Scouting is always about teamwork. When we work together, we go on to achieve more than we can on our own. We are placing safety of others before ourselves, we are supporting all of those who have to remain away from their homes by staying in ours.
As I’m sure all of you have, I have thanked and applauded the key workers in all sorts of jobs that are keeping us all equipped with what we need to stay home and especially staff within the NHS who are tirelessly helping and caring for those of us who need them the most.
This year I will renew my promise on my doorstep, after my clap for carers. As the sun sets at 20:11 on St George’s Day. Inspired by those I applaud, I will aspire to fulfil the words of my promise in the same way our amazing key workers, carers and NHS teams are doing their best to do their duty, to help other people and keep the oaths they made in their professions.

Hello Lincolnshire Scouts
In the four weeks since face to face Scouting has been ceased, I have been totally inspired by the creativity, resilience and determination you have all shown to look after yourselves and each other, stay connected with our youth members, continued to offer activities and challenges, managed your sections and groups through uncertain times, making sure that your volunteers feel supported and valued, your premises are secure, finances and risks are reviewed. For all your efforts, I and those around you are so grateful. I, like you, believe in the way that Scouting improves the lives and life chances of young people as well as improving our own lives as we explore our own beliefs and attitudes with them. Maintaining the values of Scouting as individuals and as Scouters in any circumstances is the backbone of our movement.

Adam Jacklin will be stepping down from his role as District Lead Volunteer for Sleaford District on 4 November 2025. As Adam prepares to step down as District Lead Volunteer for Sleaford this November, I would like to take the opportunity to offer my thanks for the energy, dedication, and leadership he has brought to the role. Adam has been a driving force behind many positive developments within the District, always bringing a thoughtful and steady approach to everything he does. Throughout his term, Adam has consistently put young people at the centre of our work. His collaborative style has helped build strong teams and foster a real sense of community among our volunteers. Whether supporting events, shaping strategy, or mentoring others, Adam has been generous with his time and tireless in his commitment to the values of Scouting. While Adam is stepping back from the DLV role, I know his involvement with the District and County will continue.
