Bronze Qualifying Expedition

Over the weekend nine Sleaford Explorer Scouts completed their Duke of Edinburgh Award Bronze Qualifying Expedition in the picturesque and very sunny Lincolnshire Wolds.
As two teams the Explorer Scouts journeyed through the Lincolnshire Wolds, starting at Alford and finishing on Sunday in Horncastle after spending an evening under canvas at Tetford. The expedition is a challenging journey on foot and forms one of four mandatory elements of the young people's DofE Awards.
Whilst on their expedition the explorers navigational and team work skills were put to the test, as well as their campcraft skills. Throughout the weekend the explorers were under the scrutiny of Tom (our local friendly DofE Assessor) to check they met the requirements of the award.
James Walker, DofE Advisor, praised the young people on their achievement:
"The Explorers should be proud of a superb expedition - they navigated a challenging route without fault and were always where they should be and on time."
We're looking forward to meeting the Explorer Scouts in September as they complete the final element of the expedition section - the presentation, where we'll no doubt hear about blisters, lost water bottles and beef jerky.
