Lincoln Network Scouts Enjoy Successful ‘Lincoln 24’ Event After Months of Planning

The event, planned by Network Scouts, saw participants stay awake for 24 hours, completing a range of teambuilding activities.

Based on the idea of Gilwell 24 – an annual event at Scout Headquarters in Essex - members of City of Lincoln District Network (CoLDNET) have spent months working together tirelessly to make their vision of Lincoln 24 a reality.

Network Scouts - aged between 18 and 25 years - are encouraged to run projects, such as event planning, in three key areas: Adventure, Community and International. The projects aim to help them develop as individuals as well as being rewarding and enjoyable and have a lasting impact on local Scouting.

Members of CoLDNET have been working as a team for the past eight months planning the Lincoln 24 event which took place at Altham Terrace campsite last weekend; participants took part in a range of exciting opportunities, including kayaking, archery, caving, and survival skills.

All participants successfully managed to stay awake for the 24 hours (although some of the Leaders had to take a nap!), and everyone involved enjoyed the weekend which also aimed to strengthen links between Network, and Scouts and Explorers.

Lincoln District Scout Network Commissioner, David Thompson said:

“This is the first project that CoLDNET have planned and it turned out to be a great success.

“I am extremely proud of the entire planning team and they should be delighted with their achievements.

“The weekend was supported by an excellent team of Leaders who also deserve thanks for the success of the weekend."

Cas Potterton, an Explorer Scout who attended the event, enjoyed it so much that he went on Lincoln based radio station, Siren FM to share his experience with listeners.
