Lockdown with 1st Waddington

And so face to face Scouting ended in mid March but did that stop us?? Not a bit of it.
The Leaders and the Parents at the Waddington Scout Group have really stepped up to the mark and supported the children in all sorts of ways. Not only have the children completed a massive amount of badgework at home they have also taken part in various virtual activities together with other families. There has been the ‘Camp at Home’ where 55 of the children either made indoor dens to sleep in or braved a night in a tent in the garden. This event was planned and coordinated by the Northumberland Scouts and was with ‘Biggest Camp Ever’ with 95,000 participants from sixty eight countries. Thirty eight of the children took part in a virtual ‘Camp Fire’, some indoors and again some in the garden and then there was the ‘Hike to the Moon’. We were unable, this year, to participate in the annual JOTT, Jamboree on the Trail and so as an association wide event we asked the children to get out and hike and to record their distances which were all centrally collated and reached the moon and back. I have to add that the Leaders and some brave parents also took and active part in these activities.
The number of badges awarded and the spread of activities is indeed impressive. All of the badge awards have been verified by photographic submissions from the parents;
- So far the Beavers have received sixty badges covering such activities as Outdoors, Book Reader, Animal Friend, Builder, Cook, Cyclist, Navigator and Nights Away to name but a few, whereas
- The two Cub sections have had forty two badges awarded for Martial Arts, Artist, Astronomer, Photographer, and Environmental Conservation among others.
- Scouts have achieved their badges covering, in addition, Meteorologist, Model Maker, World Faiths and Chef.
- These badges are not exclusive to any one section and neither are they all covered by each section. As a result of cumulative work on Challenge badges we have been able to award Five Chief Scouts Gold and Two Chief Scouts Bronze Awards during this period.
All sections have been meeting regularly on Zoom - To find out more about delivering your programme online visit - https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/scouts-at-home/staying-safe-online/digital-platforms-for-scouts/

Adam Jacklin will be stepping down from his role as District Lead Volunteer for Sleaford District on 4 November 2025. As Adam prepares to step down as District Lead Volunteer for Sleaford this November, I would like to take the opportunity to offer my thanks for the energy, dedication, and leadership he has brought to the role. Adam has been a driving force behind many positive developments within the District, always bringing a thoughtful and steady approach to everything he does. Throughout his term, Adam has consistently put young people at the centre of our work. His collaborative style has helped build strong teams and foster a real sense of community among our volunteers. Whether supporting events, shaping strategy, or mentoring others, Adam has been generous with his time and tireless in his commitment to the values of Scouting. While Adam is stepping back from the DLV role, I know his involvement with the District and County will continue.
