Hillwalking Terrain 1 and 2 Permit Training and Assessment

Training courses for those leading or training young people for hikes and expeditions in all areas, and is relevant to all sections from Beavers through to Network.

The training covers what is recognised by The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award as Normal or Open ground so is suitable for Bronze and Silver level expeditions, with T1 and T2 training and/or assessment looking towards supporting Gold D of E,  Explorer Belt, and more challenging walking.  The Scout Expedition Challenge Award is also covered. No previous experience is needed as skills are covered at all levels, or come and join us for a refresher of  skills or to build on experience from previous courses. Each of the practical weekends can be booked as a single weekend, or as a full training course for those wanting more experience.   These course are only open to members from Lincolnshire Scout County. Training course dates 2019

Theory Day - 3rd Feb 2019 - Horncastle Scout Hut, 10am to 3pm

All leaders looking at training or assessment are encouraged to attend before one of the practical weekends.  Looking at the legal requirements, POR, risk assessments, how weather influences route choices, leaders kit and emergency procedures for Terrain 1 and 2. Its also a chance for us to meet you, so we can make sure that the practical training, routes and venues make sure you get the experience you need.

Terrain One - 23rd to 24th February 2019 - Edale YHA, Peak District, 2 days, 1 night.

Terrain one training and possible assessment. Concentrating on map and compass skills, night navigation, group management. Cost  £50, includes food on Saturday night and Sunday breakfast / lunch.

Terrain One / Two - 19th to 21st July 2019 – Langdale, Lake District, 2 days, 2 nights.

T1 and T2 training and possible assessment. Higher level routes, steep ground and micro navigation. Cost £40, not including food.

Terrain One / Two - 27th to 29th Sept 2019 - , venue to be decided.

T1 and T2 training and possible assessment. Higher level routes, steep ground and micro navigation. Cost TBC depending on venue, not including food.

T 1 and T2 weekend fees payable on booking a place. The T1 and T2 places need to be booked 1 month before the course.

Details for each course will be sent out to participants nearer the time.  An application form for a permit, a risk assessment for a walk and a logbook of both personal and group leader experience will need to be sent before the training.
