Four Viking Explorers from Caistors have completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh cycle expedition.
The group spent three days travelling through the White Peak in Derbyshire, starting with a comfy night at Hartington Youth Hostel; they made their way to Castleton with one new tyre -due to a detour down a very rocky wrong turning- two punctures, and a slight navigation error near Monsal Head, they covered a total of 100km!
The aim of their expedition was to look at how local industry has changed in the area, and so they spent some time looking at old railway workings on the Tissington Trail, quarries along side the High Peak Trail and lead mining in Castleton.
The weather was much kinder than on the practice expedition, and they managed the problems that occurred along the way with fantastic teamwork and were always cheerful. They especially liked their second night campsite as it had a bath!
