We again have a full programme of activities for the year and you will find details below. We are adding new opportunities as they arise. These courses book up quickly and I would encourage you to book early if you want a place. The events are listed below and in the newsletter

County Activities  Team Meeting Sunday 6 January @ Wild Pines, Market Rasen

This is being held at Linwood Warren (Wild Pines) from 10am -2pm and is a chance to catch up, here about 2018 plans and have your input into what we plan for the future. Everyone is welcome to attend and we will provide a sandwich lunch.

Leaders EXperience Weekend at National Scout Centre, Great Towers; Windermere 27th-29th October 2017.

Aim of the Event: Allow leaders to the opportunity to explore a new scout venue; that will enhance their Programme within their Group or District.

The Programme, will include Saturday, optional, moderate Hill Walk and a chance to improve your navigation skills, or Self exploration of the local area. Saturday evening chance to chill and chatter. Sunday, Tour of the site and a low-level walk or do your own thing. Happy to people to do their own walks and canoe.

Accommodation, Windermere Hostel, Rooms sleeps, 24 places in two and four bunk room. Self-Catering £25 (per person; plus own transport/shared

REC First Aid Course Saturday 20-21 January 2018 (9am-6pm) at 6th Skegness Sea Scout HQ, Sea Scout Hall, Wainfleet Road Playing Fields, Skegness, PE25 2EP

This is a two day first aid course (16 hours) and is suitable for both Scout leaders and those involved in outdoor activities. It is an approved course for RYA, BCU, MLTB. The emergency first aid course is designed to introduce a systematic way of first aid for managing casualties. Topic learning and practical sessions intermixed with scenarios of real situations. The course includes:

The fundamental workings of the body, in particular the heart, lungs and airway

  • Assessing a casualty
  • Introduces a system to cope with all incidents as safely as possible
  • Deciding how to deal with an accident or incident
  • Awareness of delayed medical help and adverse environmental conditions

The Emergency first aid course is certified for three years and is an entry point for the REC scheme. The course is progressive by building on each session, introducing new scenarios to test all techniques for:

  • Emergency: vital signs • emergency action • airway • unconscious • choking • bleeding
  • breathing and circulation • cpr
  • Environment: heat stress • cold stress • hot injuries • cold injuries
  • Illness: chest pain • stroke • asthma • epilepsy • diabetes
  • Injury: head • spine • chest • abdomen • pelvis • bones • soft tissue • eye
  • Rescue: transportation • communication

Lowland Expedition Leader (BEL) Course 2018

Training Dates - January 13th /14th, Feb 3rd, Feb 23rd/ 24th / 25th (Peak District), March 17th /18th (expedition camp) 2018

This is a training course for those leading young people on expedition or training them for expeditions.   The qualification covers what is recognised by The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, as Normal or Open ground so is suitable for Bronze and Silver level expeditions.   L.E.L. is a nationally recognised qualification moderated by the UK Sports Leaders.   This course will be particularly focused on the requirements for leading The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and Scout groups. This course is only open to members from Lincolnshire Scout County.

RYA Powerboat Level 2 Course, Saturday 3 March, Saturday 17 March 2018

The course will be held on Saturday 3 and Saturday 17 March 2018 at Girton Sailing Club from 9am - 4pm each day. Please bring appropriate waterproof and warm clothing to be out on the water all day. Minimum age 13. Cost £60 - only available to Lincolnshire Scout members, Cheques payable to Lincolnshire Scouts.

YPS TUTOR Course  Saturday 14- Sunday 15 April 2018, 9- 5pm each day.

The standard course for "taster" sessions in air rifle shooting is the NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme Tutor's Diploma. This equips candidates to run have-a-go sessions in air rifle shooting and also to take young people for introduction to shooting over a longer period (as in Scouts or other uniformed groups). It is the standard qualification used by members of the British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA) and also written into Scout POR's (operating procedures). Topics Covered:

Range construction
Basic shooting skills
Session plans
Scoring targets and competition
Shooting games

The course takes place at Pecks Drove campsite at Spalding and all equipment and documentation are included in the course fee. Course participants will need to bring their lunch/ hot drinks and catering is not provided. Coffee and tea may be available. Camping can be provided if necessary at a small additional cost.  All members who are aged 17 and over on the day of assessment are eligible to take part.  Cost £75 for Lincolnshire Scout Members, £100 for Non-Lincolnshire Scout Members. Complete the booking form if you wish to attend and send to YPS, Lincolnshire Scouts, 5 Rutland Close, South Witham, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG33 5QA with the full course fee to secure your place and full payment will need to be received by 1st March 2018 to secure your place. Cheques should be payable to Lincolnshire Scout County. Places will be secured on a first paid basis and only confirmed when the course fee is received. Course fees are not refundable if you are unable to attend the course.​

Cubs on the Water (COW) Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 May 2018

Two one day events are being held on Saturday 12 May and Sunday 13 May at Girton Sailing Club. Bookings to packs will be open soon . Demand is expected to be high.  Packs can choose to attend either day (but not both).
